How to boost velocity with release management!

An effective release management methodology doesn’t only impact the quality and volume of SAP change. It also influences the velocity of SAP change.

Here, velocity means delivering high-quality SAP changes to the business at a faster pace.

Velocity is critical to keeping step with and ahead of your competitors. Businesses want new SAP releases today – or even yesterday! They don’t want to wait until the next quarter or month for a new release.

Yet, as mentioned throughout this blog series, it’s crucial to have suitable systems and processes in place. If you don’t, when it comes to increasing the velocity of SAP, it could lead to disruption of your downstream systems.

Successful release management with Rev-Trac

In blog 1 of this series, we introduced the Release Management Workbench (RMW) – a feature of Rev-Trac Platinum, our automated SAP change management platform.

The RMW provides a single view of all changes across all your releases in real-time.

Release Management Velocity

In the example above, the Release Management Workbench dashboard highlights all the changes associated with your release.

Considering velocity, you can begin to understand the health and readiness of your release. Real-time insight into how the subordinate or child changes are progressing and their readiness for release into production is accessible to all users from one screen.

Users can quickly drill down into the release, checking on transport status and errors, documentation, object components, and more. The central, easy to navigate Release Management Workbench screen increases velocity by providing immediate access to all the necessary information.

The Release Manager, and indeed all users, have all the details needed to understand the current condition of a release. The health of a release is not fixed. Changes to the release are possible provided proper authorization is granted.

With approval, changes can be dropped out or brought in using easy drag-and-drop functionality. Any potential sequencing and dependency issues are automatically updated in real-time as changes are made.

If the health of a release is good, mass approvals via a one-click deployment are possible. A single approval can deploy all requests or changes associated with a release, significantly improving velocity, particularly if you have dozens or hundreds of Rev-Trac requests in a release.

Release Managers can quickly assess the status of included changes and ensure that they have been appropriately built, tested and approved for production.

Any changes within a release without the required level of approval are easily identified and can be handled to achieve the correct status or removed. This process allows a rapid, decisive and safe progression of the release deployment, increasing your ability to improve the velocity of delivering change.

Want to increase the velocity even more? The RMW supports our Import Subset capability, similar to SAP’s Import All functionality, so import times can be further optimized.

Speed up SAP change!

Time to production is a critical element of success in today fast-moving business world. Having a robust and effective SAP release management process in place puts you on the fast track to achieving your objectives.

The capability to verify essential information regarding an SAP release before changes are migrated into the respective SAP production systems is a massive time saver. Rev-Trac’s Go-Live Orchestrator allows Release Managers to accurately estimate a release’s import time.

In this blog series on our Release Management Workbench, we investigated why Volume, Quality and Velocity were important when building your SAP release management processes.
