Last week an Infographic landed on my desk illustrating recent RedHat sponsored UBM research around the future of business IT applications.
What caught my eye was the way the Gartner Bi-Modal IT concept was used to describe the different kinds of IT applications in play.
Instead of focussing on the way the different application types were managed – perhaps the area we normally speak into.
The research illustrated 5 year predictions around the split of applications across the two modes.
Mode 1 being the traditional enterprise-based applications and mode 2 the digital cloud-based applications.
In short, the research reveals that two thirds of large enterprises will have over 50% of their business applications of mode 2 type within 5 years, around twice that of today.
So how does this relate to SAP change control automation?
Bi-modal IT drives the future of business IT applications
In a recent post, following my observations around SAP’s suggested Bi-modal IT strategy, I mentioned that due to pressure to ‘speed up’ businesses, they would be significantly shrinking their IT managed enterprise core systems in favor of an increasing number of business-owned digital applications.
This means that development methodologies such as agile and DevOps are going to become increasingly important across both modes of IT.
Some thinking around your path to SAP DevOps should therefore be high on your agenda too.
As I’ve been heard to say, no one wakes up on a Monday morning saying, ‘right, as of now we are an agile or DevOps development shop’.
It is a process – a process that we can help with. Contact us and we will help you work out your path.
