Beyond ChaRM: The Future of SAP Change. Find out how we can help!

SAP Sapphire Madrid 2026 made one thing clear: SAP’s vision of the future for ERP is now firmly centred around AI. The event heavily focused on transition towards AI-enabled ERP, with the unveiling of SAP’s ‘Autonomous Enterprise’.

For attendees, the message was unmistakable: the Autonomous Enterprise represent a major shift. SAP is accelerating its AI strategy – particularly through the introduction of AI agents designed to simplify, accelerate, and enhance enterprise operations.

I’ve spent two decades helping organizations managing SAP change, and I walked away from Madrid with genuine excitement for SAP’s AI strategy. The question is, how will the role of change management evolve.

Here are my takeaways from the conference floor.

The agentic ERP vision

At the centre of this vision is the continual evolution of SAP Joule and SAP’s broader push towards AI-driven ERP operations. SAP’s Joule 2.0 featured prominently throughout the event, re-enforcing SAP’s vision of AI being the foundation of how future ERP environments will operate

While the AI vision is compelling, conversation on the ground turned to how to manage the anticipated increase in system changes driven by AI-enabled development.

Cloud ALM momentum continues

A key observation is that SAP has established a strong business-orientated ALM vision through Cloud ALM. Organizations with complex SAP environments may need additional change and landscape management capabilities to support the transition from ChaRM to Cloud ALM and beyond. Integrating a partner solution like Rev-Trac can provide additional functionality that SAP haven’t built yet or designed for partners.

This is particularly relevant given the volume of change that AI-driven ERP is expected to create.

Cloud ALM adoption was a major theme throughout the week, alongside broader discussions around several key strategic priorities:

  • Clean core initiatives
  • SAP BTP and AI agents
  • Transport management automation
  • Business process governance
  • S/4HANA transformation

I had discussions with attendees about the transition from ChaRM to SAP Cloud ALM. In this scenario, Rev-Trac can assist when going from ChaRM to Cloud ALM while protecting critical governance, compliance processes needed to manage very complex hybrid landscapes.

At the same time, several consistent market observations emerged from these discussions. Among them were:

  • Growing demand for AI-driven change management
  • Governance and integration considerations across hybrid SAP landscapes
  • SAP’s continual evolution of Cloud ALM

The Bottom Line – what now for change management?

My biggest realization from Madrid is that the industry is ready for the next evolution of change management.

SAP has set the stage with a bold vision, the ‘Autonomous Enterprise’. We know where we are going; now we just need the blueprints to get there without losing control of the landscape.
