Code Connect 2026: Our Recap from St. Leon-Rot

August 2026

From July 14–16, the SAP developer community descended on St. Leon-Rot, Germany for Code Connect 2026 – three days, three conferences, and a lineup of talks, workshops and conversations. Spanning UI5con, reCAP, and HANA Tech Con, the event brought together developers, customers, partners, and product teams to share ideas, swap best practices, and get a hands-on look at what’s next for the SAP ecosystem.

Rev-Trac was proud to once again sponsor Code Connect, and we sent two of our own – Joshua Mitchell, full-stack developer, and Nick Arefta, software engineer – to attend. They didn’t just attend – they both presented at reCAP on July 15.

Here’s what their experience was like.

From Josh

On my talk

My session focused on exploring CAP Java using the IntelliJ debugger, along with techniques for creating plugins using generic handlers. I wanted to gear it toward developers who have less experience using the IntelliJ debugger, as well as anyone looking to create their own plugins but isn’t sure how to get started with the implementation details.

What stood out

Away from my own session, a standout talk for me was the presentation by Matthias Stemmler, SAP Data & AI leader, on real-world projects he has worked on with HANA Cloud. It was a really interesting look at how companies are using it in production.

More broadly, a lot of the reCAP sessions showcased new features that are now generally available in CAP Java. It’s going to be great to go back and start using them in our own products.

My Advice for Future Attendees

Walk around and chat with the people who are there. It’s an excellent chance to meet like-minded people and get some deeper insights from the creators into the technologies that we as developers use every day.

From Nick

On my talk

My talk was about showing how easy it is to use Terraform with SAP BTP to set up brand new subaccounts from scratch. I aimed it at developers as well as those working on the operations side.

What stood out

I really enjoyed learning about the upcoming features in the CAP framework. It was also exciting to see how AI is being adopted as CAP grows.

My Advice for Future Attendees

You’d be surprised how many people are dealing with the exact same development challenges as you. The real value of an event like Code Connect is how engaging and honest the conversations are. Don’t underestimate that.

Our takeaway

Overall, Code Connect 2026 gave us a lot to bring back. New CAP Java features ready to be put to use, and a broader shift in perspective – fresh things to keep in mind working day to day.

The SAP developer community continues to be one of the most collaborative and forward-thinking groups in the industry, and we’re already looking forward to the next Code Connect conference.
