Job Summary:

Rev‑Trac is a specialist provider of SAP change control and DevOps solutions. Our engineering team builds technically sophisticated, high‑reliability products used by SAP customers around the world. Weʼre looking for an experienced hands-on ABAP Developer (mid–senior level) with strong software development fundamentals and practical experience across both classical ABAP and modern ABAP on HANA. This role is for someone who can help us evolve our legacy codebase and drive our transition to modern, cloud-based ABAP. You will:

• Work on our existing (legacy) ABAP solution, ensuring it remains robust, maintainable, and performant.

• Contribute to the migration and evolution of our codebase towards ABAP in the Cloud and more modern SAP technologies.

• Be involved in the full software development life cycle – from requirements gathering and technical design, through development and testing, all the way to deployment and ongoing application support (including triage and defect resolution).

• Work across both project work and BAU/product maintenance, not just greenfield or project-only development.

• Collaborate daily on-site with our development, QA, and product teams to deliver high‑quality, technically sound features.

• (At the more senior end) provide technical guidance and mentoring to team members and help shape technical approaches and standards.

This role suits someone who enjoys technically focused work, cares about code quality and maintainability, and wants to grow or apply their skills in the newer SAP technology stack.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in and support the end-to-end SDLC:

1. Clarify and refine requirements with Product and stakeholders.

2. Produce and review technical designs and specifications.

3. Develop, test, and deploy changes into SAP environments.

4. Provide ongoing application support, including investigating and resolving issues in production.

• Design, develop, test, and maintain ABAP code for Rev‑Tracʼs core products.

• Work across both classical ABAP (reports, function modules, enhancements, etc.) and modern ABAP on HANA.

• Build and maintain CDS views and OData services for integrations and UI consumption.

• Contribute to the modernisation and refactoring of our legacy solution into a new cloud-based ABAP codebase.

• Apply sound software engineering principles (OO design, modularisation, clean code, unit testing where applicable).

• Work closely with QA to ensure high-quality, testable solutions and robust defect resolution.

• Collaborate with Product Management to understand requirements and refine solutions.

• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and design sessions.

• Help diagnose and resolve performance and scalability issues (especially on HANA).

• Produce and maintain technical documentation to support long-term maintainability.

• (For senior candidates) influence technical direction, contribute to architectural decisions, and help drive best practices across the team.

Essential Skills & Experience

Core technical skills

• Typically 5 – 8+ years of hands-on ABAP development experience (we’re open to strong mid-level through to solid senior-level candidates).

• Strong experience with classical ABAP:

1. Reports, function modules, user exits/BADIs, enhancements.

2. Data dictionary, batch jobs, and debugging/troubleshooting.

• Solid experience with ABAP on HANA, including:

1. CDS views (design, performance, annotations).

2. OData services (exposure, consumption, error handling).

• Good understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including:

1. Object-oriented programming principles in ABAP.

2. Database design and efficient data access.

3. Integration concepts APIs, services, interfaces).

• Demonstrated focus on clean, maintainable code and good design patterns.

• Experience working across both project delivery and ongoing application support/BAU in SAP environments.

• For senior-level candidates) evidence of:

1. Taking ownership of larger features or components end-to-end.

2. Contributing to technical design decisions and standards.

3. Providing informal or formal mentoring to other developers.

• Experience using Eclipse ADT for ABAP development, Code Inspector SCI/ATC) for static code analysis, and ABAP Unit for automated unit testing is highly valued.

Ways of working & soft skills

• Ability to work 4 days per week on-site in our Forest Hill office.

• Strong communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

• Comfortable owning changes end-to-end, including supporting what you build in production.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Experience with:

1. RAP RESTful ABAP Programming Model).

2. SAP Fiori (development or extension).

3. SAP Business Technology Platform BTP.

• SAP Basis knowledge or exposure, particularly around:

1. System configuration, transports, monitoring, or performance.

• Experience in other areas of SAP, such as:

1. SAP Solution Manager/ChaRM, SAP DevOps, or transport tools.

2. Functional exposure to common SAP modules (e.g. FI/CO, SD, MM, giving context to technical solutions.

• Experience working on technically focused, infrastructure‑style or platform products.

• Background in supporting productised software (not just one-off project implementations).
